Celebrating International Credit Union Day: Q&A - Meet Perry

Every third Thursday of October since 1948, Piedmont Advantage Credit Union celebrates International Credit Union Day to showcase the credit union difference in the communities we’re privileged to serve. This year, we’re shining a spotlight on the rewards of working in the credit union industry. Four Piedmont Advantage teammates have agreed to participate.

So, today, let's embrace the spirit of International Credit Union Day by hearing from Bonnie and Perry in Consumer Lending, Sandi in Risk Management and Michelle in our Branch Network.

Thank you, Bonnie, Perry, Sandi and Michelle, so much for your participation. Based on your responses, our Simply Service® culture and the credit union difference shine.

Meet Perry:

Tell us a little about yourself. Briefly share the number of credit union years that you have served.

Hi I’m Perry. I am a resident of Davie County. I have been in the credit union industry for 42 years. I am a member of three credit unions; one of those I have been a member for almost 50 years.

When someone mentions “credit union,” what is one word or phrase that comes to your mind and why?

Service, common-bond, trust, and honesty are a few that come time mind. It is the heart of what we do every day.

What attracted you to the credit union?

I had a job opportunity with RJR and that opened a door to a wonderful movement.

What similarities or characteristics do you share with the credit union?

My family is big on service, honesty, loyalty, and dedication. All of these characteristics go hand in hand with the credit union.

Can you share a personal experience that highlights the sense of purpose and fulfillment that comes with working in the credit union industry?

Wow there are a lot of special moments (some that still make me tear up), but in summary seeing a member(s) smile when they were worried out of their mind only to be resolved by listening and helping. Meeting the needs of individuals and families while developing lifelong friendships.  Learning, growing, working with many amazing people who have hearts of service, loyalty, and dedication to a common goal.

Headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and founded in 1949 within the aviation industry, Piedmont Advantage Credit Union (PACU) serves member-owners, who reside, work, worship, attend school or operate a business in one of the six counties it serves in North Carolina or who are employed by one of its many employer companies. These six counties are Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg and Rockingham.
