Celebrating International Credit Union Day

On October 17, 2024, credit unions worldwide will come together to celebrate International Credit Union Day®. This year’s theme, One World Through Cooperative Finance, highlights credit unions’ unique role in making financial services accessible to everyone.

At Piedmont Advantage Credit Union, we’ve lived this mission for the last 75 years. What began as a small cooperative in 1949 has grown into a trusted financial partner serving our North Carolina communities throughout the Piedmont Triad and Charlotte regions with the same commitment to service, financial education and member-focused solutions. Our journey mirrors the global credit union movement, where more than 403 million members in 98 countries benefit from financial services that prioritize people over profit.

Each year, International Credit Union Day® reminds us of our shared history and values in hopes of driving positive economic and social change. We’re proud to stand alongside 82,000 other credit unions worldwide, making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and communities. While this day is a moment to reflect on our past, it’s also a time to look ahead, knowing there’s still work to do. With 1.4 billion people globally still unbanked, credit unions like ours are committed to reaching underserved populations with the financial tools they need.

International Credit Union Day® is organized by World Council of Credit Unions, the global trade association and development platform for credit unions and other financial cooperatives, and numerous national credit union trade associations and federations worldwide. As we celebrate 75 years of service, we look forward to continuing to fulfill the cooperative promise of providing fair and accessible financial services for all. Let’s use this day to commemorate our legacy and inspire future generations to carry the credit union difference forward.

Happy International Credit Union Day!
